Leo Radiance | Astrology, Archetype & the Blend Made for the Lion

Barbara Hudak

Leo season arrives every year like a standing ovation, warm, golden, and impossible to ignore. The Sun rules Leo, and in Leo, the Sun is fully at home: radiant, generous, creative, and burning with the kind of life force that makes everything around it glow a little brighter.

If you have Leo in your chart, Sun, Moon, Rising, or anywhere else, you know this energy. You feel it as the pull toward self-expression, the desire to create something beautiful, the instinct to lead with your heart. You also know its shadow: the fear of not being seen, the ache of dimming yourself to make others comfortable, the exhaustion of performing rather than simply being.

Leo Radiance was made for all of it, the light and the shadow, the roar and the tenderness beneath it.

The Astrology of Leo | July 23 – August 22

Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac, a Fixed Fire sign ruled by the Sun. In the natural wheel of the zodiac, Leo governs the fifth house, the house of creativity, self-expression, romance, play, and children. This is the house of what you make and how you shine.

The Fixed modality gives Leo its staying power. Unlike Cardinal signs that initiate and Mutable signs that adapt, Fixed signs sustain. Leo doesn't just spark- it burns. It commits. It shows up, again and again, with the same warmth and generosity, even when no one's watching.

The Sun as Leo's ruling body is significant. In astrology, the Sun represents the core self, the essential identity, the life force, the part of you that is most fundamentally you. When the Sun is in Leo, it's expressing itself through the archetype it most naturally embodies: the sovereign, the creator, the one who leads from the heart.

Leo's symbol is the Lion, not the aggressive predator of fear-based mythology, but the regal, protective, heart-centered leader of the pride. The lion leads not through domination but through presence. Its authority comes not from force but from the simple, undeniable fact of what it is.

The Psychology of the Leo Archetype

Psychologist Carl Jung's concept of archetypes, universal patterns of character and energy that live in the collective unconscious, maps beautifully onto the zodiac. The Leo archetype corresponds most closely to what Jung called the Self: the integrated, individuated center of the psyche that has moved beyond the ego's need for external validation and found its authority within.

But the path to that integration is rarely straightforward. Developmental psychologist Erik Erikson's fifth stage, Identity vs. Role Confusion, is deeply Leo territory. The question of Who am I, and how do I express that? is the Leo question at every age. When it's answered from a place of genuine self-knowledge, the result is the Leo at their best: confident, creative, generous, and fully alive. When it's answered from a place of fear or wound, the result is the Leo shadow: the performer who needs applause to feel real, the leader who confuses control with authority.

Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's research on flow, the state of complete absorption in creative activity, is also quintessentially Leo. Flow states are characterized by effortless action, intrinsic motivation, and a sense of expanded aliveness. They're what happens when Leo energy is fully expressed: not performance, but pure creative presence. Science has a name for what Leos have always known.

Leo Radiance | Rose Absolute, Bergamot, Red Mandarin, Neroli & Sandalwood

Our Leo Radiance Essential Oil Roll-On is handcrafted in Sedona, Arizona with a warm, floral, citrusy, and woody blend chosen to embody the full spectrum of Leo energy, the radiance, the heart, the joy, and the sovereign depth beneath it all:

  • Organic Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena): the queen of all essential oils, and the perfect heart note for the sign that rules the heart. Rose has the highest vibrational frequency of any essential oil and has been revered across cultures for its ability to support love, self-worth, and emotional openness. For Leo, rose is the reminder that true radiance comes not from performance but from an open, generous heart. Research supports its significant calming and mood-elevating properties.
  • Organic Bergamot (Citrus bergamia): bright, uplifting, and immediately mood-lifting; bergamot is one of the most well-researched essential oils for easing anxiety and supporting emotional openness. For Leo, it provides the sunny, optimistic top note that reflects the sign's natural warmth and generosity of spirit. It's the scent of confidence without arrogance, light, open, and genuinely joyful.
  • Organic Red Mandarin (Citrus reticulata): the most playful and joyful of the citrus oils; red mandarin brings a quality of pure, uncomplicated delight that is deeply Leo. It's associated with creativity, spontaneity, and the kind of childlike joy that Leo at its best never loses. Research supports its calming and mood-brightening effects, making it a perfect companion for the Leo who's learning to play without an audience.
  • Organic Neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara): distilled from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree, neroli is one of the most emotionally sophisticated oils in the aromatherapy tradition. It bridges the brightness of the citrus notes with the depth of the rose, supporting both confidence and vulnerability, the combination that defines Leo at its most authentic. Neroli is particularly associated with easing performance anxiety and supporting the courage to be genuinely seen.
  • Sandalwood (Santalum album): the grounding base note that anchors all that solar radiance in the body; sandalwood quiets the mind, supports presence, and creates the quality of inner stillness from which true confidence, as opposed to bravado, arises. The most powerful Leos aren't the loudest ones, but the most deeply rooted.

All blended in organic coconut oil and infused with a Herkimer "diamond" quartz crystal, Sedona red rocks, and 24K gold flakes; informed by the inspiration of gifted astrologer Shana Eva. Prepared within our custom nine-foot orgonite crystal pyramid chamber, handcrafted in Sedona by Team Light founder Rion De'Rouen.

How to Work with Leo Radiance

  1. Crystal activation (first use). Hold the bottle gently between your hands. Take a slow, intentional breath. Set your intention or repeat the affirmation:
"I shine my light with confidence, my heart is open, and I inspire with love."
The Herkimer quartz crystal becomes a symbolic anchor for your ritual from this moment forward.
  2. Apply. Roll lightly onto the wrists or other external pulse points.
  3. Breathe and arrive. Take three slow, conscious breaths. Inhale the warm, floral-citrus scent. Feel the solar plexus and heart expand. Let yourself take up a little more space than usual.
  4. Set your intention. What does it mean for you to shine today? What creative expression is asking to come through? What would it look like to lead from your heart rather than your fear?
  5. Use it often. Leo Radiance is made for daily practice, during meditation, journaling, movement, or any moment when you want to return to the felt sense of your own radiance.

Who Is Leo Radiance For?

Leo Radiance was created for Leo Sun, Moon, and Rising placements, but it's for anyone working with Leo themes right now. That includes anyone navigating questions of creative expression, self-worth, visibility, leadership, or the courage to be genuinely seen. It's also a beautiful choice during Leo season (July 23 – August 22) and the Lion's Gate portal (8/8), when Leo energy is amplified for everyone, regardless of chart.

And honestly? If the warm, floral, citrusy, woody scent simply speaks to you, that's reason enough.
