The Equinox Mirror: What Your Opposite Sign Can Teach You
Barbara HudakShare
There’s a moment from a recent conversation with my friend Shana Eva that has stayed with me.
Shana Eva is a Sedona-based evolutionary astrologer and symbolic storyteller whose wisdom helped inspire our Cosmic Archetype Collection. We were recently chatting on her Heart on Radio After Dark podcast about astrology, essential oils, and the different parts of ourselves we may want to bring forward at different times.
Shana and I (and Nathalie Marie, co-founder of Star Code Alchemy) are Libras, so we each know the beauty of Libra energy. Libra notices relationships, seeks harmony, appreciates beauty, and can often see more than one side of a situation.
And sometimes, if I’m being honest, I can see so many sides that making an actual decision becomes its own spiritual practice.
During our conversation, Shana Eva offered a perspective that made something click for me: every zodiac sign has an opposite sign that can serve as a counterbalance.
For Libra, that sign is Aries.
When Libra energy becomes overly focused on keeping the peace, considering everyone else, or waiting until the perfect choice becomes obvious, Aries offers something different. Aries brings directness, initiative, self-trust, and the willingness to move.
Not recklessly. Not without caring about other people. Just with enough fire to say, “This is what I choose.”
You can hear our complete conversation, The Eclipse Within: Pisces Transformation, Communication Wounds & Scents for Change. The discussion about opposite signs and the Cosmic Archetype Collection begins near the 44-minute mark.
The Equinox Is About More Than Perfect Balance
The September equinox marks a seasonal turning point. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we begin moving from the outward energy of summer toward the quieter, more reflective months of autumn.
Astrologically, the Sun also enters Libra, the sign symbolized by the scales.
It’s tempting to imagine balance as a perfectly still point where everything is finally even. Real balance rarely looks that tidy. It's responsive. It asks us to notice when we’ve leaned too far in one direction and make a conscious adjustment.
Sometimes balance means resting.
Sometimes it means finally moving.
Sometimes it means listening more carefully to another person.
And sometimes it means hearing our own voice before we automatically accommodate everyone else.
What Happens When a Strength Becomes Overused?
Every sign carries qualities that can serve us beautifully. Those same qualities can become limiting when we rely on them too heavily.
Libra’s diplomacy can become avoidance.
Its thoughtfulness can become indecision.
Its desire for connection can become over-accommodation.
Its ability to appreciate multiple perspectives can make it harder to recognize what it wants.
This doesn’t make Libra energy wrong or weak. It simply means that one part of us may be doing more work than it was meant to do.
The opposite sign can introduce another possibility.
Aries sits directly across the zodiac from Libra. Where Libra asks, “What works for us?” Aries asks, “What is true for me?”
Where Libra considers, Aries initiates.
Where Libra seeks agreement, Aries is willing to stand alone when necessary.
Together, they create a fuller conversation between self and relationship, independence and cooperation, action and reflection.
The intention is not to become less Libra. It is to give Libra access to more Aries when the moment calls for it.
Using Aroma as an Intentional Anchor
This is where our essential oil blends can become part of the practice.
Aroma reaches us quickly. A familiar scent can become a sensory reminder of an intention we want to return to. The oil is not changing your astrology or choosing for you. It is helping create a pause in which you can notice what is happening and intentionally decide how you want to respond.
Our Libra Balance Essential Oil Roll-On is a floral, citrusy, sweet, and woody blend of Geranium, Rose Absolute, Lemon, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang. It was inspired by harmony, beauty, grace, thoughtful connection, and the reflective qualities traditionally associated with Libra.
Aries Ignite Essential Oil Roll-On has a warmer, spicier character. Sacred Frankincense, Ginger, Black Pepper, Vetiver, and Sweet Orange create an aromatic ritual inspired by courage, initiative, purposeful action, and new beginnings.
If I notice myself circling a decision, asking five more people what they think, or softening a boundary until it almost disappears, Aries Ignite can become my cue to pause and ask:
What do I already know?
The purpose is not to override Libra’s wisdom. It is to invite another part of myself into the room.
A Simple Libra - Aries Equinox Ritual
Choose one situation in your life that currently feels out of balance.
Apply your chosen roll-on lightly to your wrists or onto your palms. Take three slow, conscious breaths and notice the aroma without trying to force an answer.
Then ask yourself:
- Am I honoring both my relationships and myself?
- Am I still gathering useful information, or am I postponing a decision?
- Is there a boundary I already know I need to express?
- What would thoughtful courage look like here?
- What is one clear action I can take next?
If you’re feeling reactive, impatient, or ready to charge forward without reflection, Libra Balance may offer a symbolic invitation to slow down, consider the larger relationship, and choose with greater care.
If you’re overthinking, over-accommodating, or waiting for everyone else to agree, Aries Ignite may help anchor an intention of clarity, courage, and movement.
You don’t need to solve everything during the ritual. Choose one small action that honors both sides of the axis.
The Six Opposite-Sign Axes
Libra and Aries are only one of six zodiac pairings. You can explore this practice through any placements in your birth chart or simply through the archetypal qualities you need at a particular moment.
- Aries and Libra: self-direction and relationship
- Taurus and Scorpio: stability and transformation
- Gemini and Sagittarius: curiosity and larger meaning
- Cancer and Capricorn: nurturing and responsibility
- Leo and Aquarius: personal expression and collective contribution
- Virgo and Pisces: discernment and surrender
Opposite signs are not enemies. They are different ends of a shared conversation.
You also don’t need to use the blend associated with your Sun sign. As Shana described in our conversation, you might reach for the archetype whose qualities you want to invite forward. Your Sun, Moon, Rising, and other placements may all offer useful doorways, but sometimes the simplest question is enough:
What energy would support me right now?
Balance as a Living Conversation
Perhaps this is one of the equinox’s quiet invitations.
Balance is not about becoming less of who we are. It is about remembering that we contain more than one way of responding.
The peacekeeper can also have boundaries.
The decisive one can pause and listen.
The nurturer can create structure.
The visionary can attend to what is practical.
The person who usually waits can begin.
As we enter this new season, notice where you may be leaning heavily on one familiar part of yourself. Then look across the zodiac wheel. There may be another archetype waiting to offer a different perspective.
Not to replace who you are.
To help you access more of who you are.
