Spiritual Hygiene: Honor Your Energy, Embody Your Light
Barbara HudakShare
The art of energetic sovereignty, conscious intention, and what we bring into the world.
Have you ever walked away from a conversation feeling completely drained?
Maybe it was someone going through a difficult time. Perhaps a stressful meeting, an emotionally charged phone call, or one of those encounters that leaves you thinking, Wow, that was a latte!
You move on with your day, but somehow, the conversation comes along for the ride.
And sometimes, we're still having that conversation in our heads three hours later. You know the ones!
As we move into the quieter months of winter, I've been thinking about how we care for ourselves, not just physically or emotionally, but energetically.
We hear plenty about eating well, moving our bodies, getting enough sleep, and washing our hands. All good things, of course.
But what about spiritual hygiene?
It's something that has become an important part of my own life, both personally and professionally.
And no, it doesn't require a spiritual shower, although I have to admit, there are days when that sounds pretty appealing.
What Is Spiritual Hygiene, Anyway?
For me, spiritual hygiene is the conscious practice of becoming aware of our energy, releasing what we no longer wish to carry, and returning to a state of greater clarity, balance, and presence.
It's not about avoiding people, shutting down our sensitivity, or putting up "protective walls".
Quite the opposite.
It's about being able to show up with compassion, kindness, and an open heart while honoring our own energetic sovereignty.
In other words, we can care deeply without carrying everything.
That distinction became especially meaningful through my work in healthcare, massage therapy, energy work, and HeartMath® coherence and resilience coaching and training.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with thousands of people navigating illness, grief, emotional challenges, and major life transitions.
These encounters can be deeply meaningful. They can also be demanding.
My business partner, Nathalie, and I noticed something in our work as energy practitioners and HeartMath® Coaches. After certain sessions, particularly with people experiencing significant physical or emotional challenges, we sometimes felt depleted.
It wasn't that anyone had done anything wrong.
We simply recognized that we needed to become more intentional about how we cared for our own energy between encounters.
And that realization became the beginning of something special.
What Are You Broadcasting?
Here's a question I love to ask:
What kind of energy are you bringing into the next room?
Think about it.
You finish a difficult conversation, leave a stressful appointment, or spend an hour listening to someone's worries.
Then you go directly into your next meeting, interaction, or activity.
Physically, you've moved on.
But emotionally? Well, sometimes we're still back in that previous conversation, mentally preparing our closing arguments!
This is one reason I find HeartMath's work with heart coherence so meaningful.
HeartMath science explores the relationship between our emotional states, heart rhythms, and physiological coherence. Its teachings also invite us to consider how the quality of our inner state may influence the way we relate to others.
According to the HeartMath Institute, our heart produces a measurable electromagnetic field, and that has long fascinated me. Although measuring that field is different from demonstrating that our thoughts or emotions are directly transmitted to another person, I find the broader invitation valuable.
Our inner state matters.
People can often sense whether we're genuinely present, distracted, tense, or at ease through our words, expressions, and interactions.
So before moving from one person or experience to the next, I like to ask myself:
Am I bringing forward yesterday's frustration, someone else's worries, or the stress of my last conversation? Or am I consciously choosing how I want to show up right now?
For me, that's where spiritual hygiene begins.
Not with fear.
With awareness.
And with responsibility for the energy, attention, and intention we bring into our interactions.
The Power of the Pause
One of the simplest practices I've learned is also one of the most powerful.
Pause. Breathe. Reconnect. Choose.
It doesn't need to take twenty minutes. Sometimes a few intentional breaths can make a meaningful difference in how we feel and respond.
I might place my attention around my heart, slow my breathing, and bring forward a genuine feeling of appreciation or compassion.
Then I ask myself what I want to embody as I move into the next part of my day.
- Clarity?
- Kindness?
- Patience?
- A little more grace?
Some days, all of the above, please.
The point isn't to pretend difficult emotions don't exist. They do, and they're part of being human.
It's about recognizing that we have choices in how we respond and what we continue to carry.
This is especially important for caregivers, healthcare professionals, counselors, pastors, massage therapists, energy practitioners, empaths, and anyone who regularly holds space for others.
But really, it's a practice available to all of us.
Because life doesn't stop offering opportunities to practice!
How Angelic Shield Came Into Being
This growing awareness of spiritual hygiene inspired Nathalie and me to create Angelic Shield.
We wanted something that could become part of our own intentional practice: a sensory reminder to pause, reconnect, clear our personal space, and return to ourselves.
As energy workers, HeartMath practitioners, and people who deeply appreciate botanical aromatherapy, we began exploring how these elements could come together.
The inspiration unfolded through our professional knowledge, intuitive experiences, and spiritual practices.
We chose botanicals that offered the aromatic qualities we were drawn to:
-
Clove and cinnamon bark, with their rich, warming spice notes.
-
Rosemary, with its fresh, herbaceous character, which I've always associated with clarity.
-
Lemon and sweet orange, bringing brightness and a wonderfully uplifting citrus aroma.
-
Eucalyptus and ravintsara, contributing a fresh, invigorating dimension.
Together, these essential oils create a distinctive aromatic blend that feels both comforting and enlivening.
But for us, Angelic Shield was never intended to be simply another essential oil blend.
It was an expression of a larger philosophy.
The energy and intention we bring to the creative process matter just as much to us as the finished product.
The Art of Intentional Alchemy
At STAR CODE Alchemy, Nathalie and I approach product creation as a conscious practice.
Our process includes botanical formulation, carefully prepared ingredients and containers, heart coherence, spiritual and energetic practices, and time within our custom crystalline, copper, orgonite pyramid in our Sedona studio.
We also incorporate PEMF frequency preparation as one element of our intentional approach.
Behind the scenes, we follow an extensive proprietary protocol developed from our combined experience, intuitive guidance, and trusted personal practices.
We won't take you through all 23 pages. You might need another cup of coffee for that!
But the heart of our approach is simple.
We want to bring our clearest attention, integrity, and highest intentions to everything we create.
The spiritual inspiration for Angelic Shield also includes the violet flame tradition and angelic symbolism associated with compassion, transformation, clarity, and the honoring of personal boundaries.
These are meaningful elements of our creative philosophy, but there's no expectation that anyone else share our particular beliefs.
For us, intention is an invitation, not an instruction.
And that brings me to one of my favorite aspects of our products.
We Create With Intention. You Make It Your Own.
Each Angelic Shield bottle contains a quartz crystal.
We include crystals as meaningful elements of our energetic practice and invite each person to establish their own personal connection with them.
When you receive your Angelic Shield, we encourage you to take a quiet moment, hold the bottle between your hands, breathe, and choose an intention that feels right for you.
Maybe it's:
I stand confidently in my own light.
Or:
My energy is vibrant, whole, and supported.
Perhaps:
I remain compassionate while honoring my own boundaries.
Or simply:
I am grounded, clear, and present.
There isn't one correct affirmation.
And here's something else I love: your intention can evolve as you do.
What felt meaningful six months ago may not reflect where you are today.
You can revisit your crystal, renew your affirmation, and choose what you want to bring forward into this next chapter of your life.
Rather than creating a fixed experience, we love the idea of offering something that encourages personal participation and conscious choice.
To me, that's a beautiful expression of energetic sovereignty.
Two Ways to Experience Angelic Shield
We created Angelic Shield in two forms because mindful moments don't always happen in the same place.
Angelic Shield Botanical Mist
The mist is a lovely companion for creating an intentional atmosphere at home, in a meditation space, or between appointments.
Simply shake the bottle gently, mist the air around your space, pause, and reconnect with your intention.
It's a small sensory reminder that you can begin again at any moment.
Angelic Shield Essential Oil Roll-On
The roll-on offers a personal, portable aromatic experience.
With essential oils blended into amber resin-infused organic coconut oil, a Herkimer quartz crystal, and 24K gold flakes, it's easy to bring along as you move through your day.
Whether you're traveling, preparing for a meaningful conversation, or enjoying a quiet moment to yourself, the roll-on invites you to return to your intention wherever you are.
Both were created with the same spirit of conscious preparation and personal empowerment.

A Little Spiritual Hygiene for the Changing Seasons
As autumn gives way to winter, our routines often shift.
The days become shorter. Calendars fill with gatherings, obligations, and all the little things that seem to arrive at once.
And even when the season is joyful, it can feel like a lot.
This is a beautiful time to become more intentional about what we're carrying and what we're choosing to cultivate.
Perhaps spiritual hygiene becomes a moment of appreciation before beginning your day.
- A few coherent breaths between appointments.
- A pause before entering your home after work.
- Or a conscious decision to release the mental replay of a conversation that ended hours ago.
We don't always get to choose the circumstances around us.
But we can practice choosing how we meet them.
And we can remember that our sensitivity doesn't have to be something we defend.
It can be something we honor.
Honor Your Energy. Embody Your Light.
If there's one thing I'd love you to take from this conversation, it's this:
Spiritual hygiene isn't about fearing what other people bring into our lives. It's about taking ownership of what we choose to carry forward.
You can remain open-hearted without feeling responsible for everything.
You can offer compassion without losing yourself in someone else's experience.
And you can pause, reconnect, and consciously choose what you want to bring into the world.
For Nathalie and me, that philosophy is woven into Angelic Shield and the way we create at STAR CODE Alchemy.
Our intention is to offer something beautiful and meaningful that you can make entirely your own.
Because ultimately, it's your energy.
Your intention.
Your light.
And that's worth honoring.
